Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair
Three-Way Catalytic (TWC) Converter
Removal
CAUTION: Do not touch the TWC converter heat shield when the engine is running. The conversion process produces high heat. Even when
the engine is not running, it remains hot a long time. It will remain hot after the tail pipe has cooled. Touching the heat shield may produce a
serious burn.
1. Remove two nuts at spring-loaded flange of front exhaust pipe.
2. Remove two nuts from forward pre-silencer flange.
3. Remove one gasket.
Installation
1. Clean mating surfaces as required.
2. Install one new gasket.
3. Position TWC converter for installation.
4. Tighten two nuts at the forward pre-silencer flange.
Tightening torque: 27.4 - 38.3 ft. lbs. (37.2 - 51.9 Nm, 3.8 - 5.3 kg-m)
5. Tighten two nuts at spring-loaded flange of front exhaust pipe.
Tightening torque: 27.4 - 38.3 ft. lbs. (37.2 - 51.9 Nm, 3.8 - 5.3 kg-m)
