CONDITION
Some vehicles have a hard or difficult to start problem where the MIL illuminates and a P1797 - P or N Range Signal (A/T)/Clutch Pedal Position
Switch (M/T) Open or Short, or P0705 - Transaxle Range Switch Circuit Malfunction is retrieved.
CAUSE
This condition is often caused by corrosion in the transaxle range switch connector. The corrosion is caused by moisture that enters the connector area
when driving in wet weather or repeatedly driving through standing water.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
1. Disconnect the transaxle range switch electrical connector (C111) and check for corrosion on the male and female terminals.
2. If corrosion is present, remove the corrosion using contact cleaner and a small brush.
NOTICE
If the terminals are too corroded (green) to be cleaned or if rust is present, replace the transaxle range switch and front harness.
3. Check the rubber seals on the connector to make sure they are properly installed and in good condition.
4. Apply Stabilant-22A to the terminals and connect the transaxle range switch connector (C111) to the transaxle range switch.
NOTICE
Stabilant-22A must be applied to the connector pins prior to snapping the connector together to prevent further corrosion/contact problems.
