Steering - Vehicle Pulls to One Side

TITLE: Vehicle Pulls To One Side

SERVICE TIP:

CONDITION

The vehicle will sometimes "pull" to one side or the other while driving, requiring the driver to apply constant steering wheel pressure to make the
vehicle go in a straight line. This type of "pulling" may not mean the steering needs alignment or the steering wheel is off-center.

CAUSE

This condition is usually caused by excessive tire conicity. Before checking for possible causes, verify the customers complaint by driving the vehicle
on a level surface. When testing, keep in mind that most roads in the US are crowned so a slight vehicle drift is normal.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

1. Check for correct tire pressures.

Sephia: 29 PSI cold, front/rear
Sportage: 26 PSI cold, front/rear

2. Check for the proper size and type tires recommended for the vehicle. If different tires are installed on the vehicle, both left and right front tires

must be the same.

3. Swap the left front tire with the right front tire and perform a road test.
4. If the vehicle now pulls in the opposite direction, swap the right front tire with the right rear tire and perform a road test.
5. If the vehicle still pulls to the same side, then the problem is not the tires. Check the vehicle for proper alignment, brake drag, wheel bearing

adjustment, etc.

6. If the problem is corrected, replace the right rear tire.
7. If the problem is not corrected, replace the left front tire.
