TITLE:  Compass Declination

APPLIES TO:  Sorento

SERVICE TIP: 

A magnetic compass does not point to true (geographic) North. Magnetic North is the direction the compass will point. This means that a compass will
point at an angle East or West of true North. To compensate for this, Magnetic Declination must be taken into consideration. Magnetic Declination is
the angle between geographic North and magnetic North. The following steps describe the procedure for Declination Correction.

1. Turn the ignition key ON and access the compass function. "DRT" will be shown in the display.

2. Press and hold the MODE/SET switch for approximately 4 seconds. The display will change from a direction to a number followed by an "E" or

"W".

3. Select the degree of correction from the map shown below (Example: Los Angeles, California would be 15E).

4. Press the UP or DOWN key on the multimeter panel until the appropriate correction is indicated on the display.

5. Press and hold the MODE/SET key until the display changes back to its normal view.

If the compass display differs from the actual bearing after performing the Declination Correction or the vehicle battery has been disconnected,
perform the Position Correction procedure. This procedure is outlined in the 2003 Sorento Technical Highlights page 17 in the Body Electrical section
or in the 2003 Sorento Owners Manual page 4-63.
