2. Examine for damaged or worn ring gear teeth. If necessary, replace ring gear as follows:
a. Grind almost through ring gear, then cut through remaining material with chisel.
b. Heat the new ring gear to 480-570° F (250300° C), then fit onto the room temperature flywheel. The beveled side of the ring gear must face
toward the engine side.
3. Inspect for runout as follows:
a. With flywheel attached to engine, mount dial indicator with gauge plunger touching flywheel clutch contact surface. Turn engine by hand and
record maximum reading.
Runout maximum: 0.008 inch (0.2 mm)
b. If the runout exceeds specification, repair by resurfacing (grinding).
Maximum resurfacing depth: 0.020 inch (0.5 mm)
INSTALLATION
Required:

Ring Gear Brake
1. Place flywheel over end of exposed engine crankshaft.
2. Insert and hand tighten eight bolts.
3. Install ring gear brake.
