Oil Pump: Service and Repair
NOTE: On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable and drain engine oil.
2. Remove radiator cap and drain engine coolant.
3. Remove timing belt.
4. Remove oil pan and main bearing support as outlined under Oil Pan.
5. Remove A/C compressor.
6. Remove power steering pump bracket.

7. Remove oil pump bolts and pump, Fig. 28. Carefully remove oil seal with suitable screwdriver.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Apply small amount of clean engine oil to lip of new oil seal.
b. Install new O-ring oil pump.
c. Apply a continuous bead of suitable silicone to oil pump contact surface.
d. Push oil seal slightly in by hand. The oil seal must be pressed in until it is flush with edge of oil pump body.
9. On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.
