Tachometer: Description and Operation
Battery voltage is supplied to the instrument panel indicator lights and gauges from the "METER" fuse when the ignition is in ON or "START."
Movement of the tachometer's pointer is controlled by an electronic circuit that inputs pulses from the ignition coil. The frequency of the pulses, and the
circuit's output, is proportional to engine RPM, resulting in the pointer reflecting any engine speed change.
