Sportage 2WD L4-2.0L SOHC (1995)
NOTE: Do not clean the tensioner with cleaning fluids. If necessary, use a soft rag to wipe it clean and avoid scratching the tensioner.
1. Check the timing belt tensioner and idler pulley for smooth rotation and abnormal noise.
2. Replace if necessary.
TIMING BELT TENSIONER SPRING INSPECTION
1. Check the free length of the spring.
Free length: 2.240 inch (56.9 mm)
2. Replace if necessary.
INSTALLATION
1. Install the timing belt tensioner and tensioner spring.
2. Install the tensioner lock bolt.
3. Pry the tensioner outward as far as possible to stretch the tensioner spring and temporarily tighten the tensioner lock bolt.
4. Verify that the timing belt pulley mark is aligned with the timing mark.
