Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair
Pipe and Catalytic Converter Assembly
PIPE AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER ASSEMBLY
Caution: Do not touch TWC converter heat shield when the engine is running. The conversion process produces high heat Even when the engine is
not running, it remains hot a long time and remain hot after the tail pipe has cooled. Touching the heat shield may produce a serious burn.
Removal
1. Remove the three nuts that attach warm-up threeway catalytic converter to pipe and catalytic converter assembly.
2. Remove two nuts from the forward muffler flange.
3. Remove the three-way catalytic converter.
4. Remove two gaskets.
Installation
1. Clean mating surfaces as required.
2. Install two new gaskets.
3. Position the three-way catalytic converter for installation.
4. Tighten two nuts at the forward muffler flange.
Tighten the two nuts to 70 ft. lbs. (100 Nm).
5. Tighten three nuts attaching warm-up three-way catalytic converter to pipe and catalytic converter assembly.
Tighten the three nuts to 70 ft. lbs. (100 Nm)
