Air Bag Control Module: Service and Repair
Air Bag Diagnostic Unit (ADU)
WARNING: IMPROPER HANDLING OF THE ADU MAY RESULT IN UNPLANNED AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT; WHICH CAN CAUSE
SERIOUS INJURY. READ ALL THE SERVICE WARNINGS BEFORE PERFORMING SERVICE.
Air Bag Diagnostic Unit (ADU)
Removal
1. Follow the Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming Procedure.
2. Disconnect the battery (negative terminal first), and wait a minimum often (10) minutes before attempting any service to the air bag-SRS
components.
3. Remove the two rear console mounting screws (two at lower rear).
4. Remove the rear console (pull parking brake lever upward).
5. Remove the three front console mounting screws (one each side at lower front and one at center rear).
6. Remove the front console. The automatic shift lever will need to be shifted to rear most position. The transfer case shift knob will need to be
removed and the electrical connector will need to be disconnected.
7. Lift the lock tab to unlock the ADU electrical connector, then detach the electrical connector from the right side of the ADU.
8. Position carpeting in front of console to gain access to the front of the ADU.
9. Remove the three mounting nuts. Lift the ground leads off the front left stud.
10. Lift the ADU up and forward and remove it from the front side of lower instrument panel bracket.
