Power Steering Bleeding: Service and Repair
Bleeding
Notice: This procedure is normally performed when there is evidence of air in the power steering system (as indicated by a foamy appearance of the
power steering fluid), and always after power steering equipment has been disconnected.
1. Raise and support the front of the vehicle.
2. Check the fluid level of the power steering at the reserve tank.
3. With the engine off, turn the steering wheel full-right and full-left several times.
4. Check the fluid level again. If fluid level is lower, add fluid as required.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until fluid reaches and remains at the proper level.
6. Start the engine and let run at idle speed.
Notice: Do not hold the steering wheel full-left or full-right (against the stops) for longer than 15 seconds. Prolonged operation in this condition is
harmful to the power steering pump.
7. Turn the steering wheel full-left and full-right several times.
8. Check the power steering fluid at the reserve tank. There should be no foam in the fluid.
Notice: If there is foam in the power steering fluid, stop the engine and let the system set for approximately five minutes, then repeat steps 2
through 8.
