Control Arm: Description and Operation
Lower Control Arm
Lower Control Arm
The lower control arm works in unison with the upper control arm and is used to support the shock absorber and coil spring assembly. It also supports
and controls the lower portion of the steering knuckle via a removable ball joint. Like the upper control arm, it is attached to the frame by nuts and
bolts, insulated by rubber bushings. The lower control arm maintains stability as well as controls the vertical movement of the wheel and, via the shock
absorber/coil spring assembly, dampens road shock and vibration. The ball joint allows wheel rotation through the steering knuckle lower interface.
