Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber: Description and Operation

WARNING: THE REAR AXLE MUST BE SECURED AND SUPPORTED TO REDUCE THE RISK OF IT FALLING, CAUSING BODILY
INJURY. THE COMPONENTS DESCRIBED HEREIN EACH SUPPORT A PORTION OF THE REAR AXLE. EACH TASK ASSUMES ONLY
ONE COMPONENT AT A TIME WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE REAR AXLE. THE REMOVAL OF OTHER REAR SUSPENSION
COMPONENTS COULD CAUSE AXLE INSTABILITY.
Rear Coil Spring And Shock Absorber
The rear axle suspension system utilizes independently mounted coil springs and double-acting, oil-filled shock absorbers. They are attached to the
rear axle and body by retainers and rubber seats. Their function is to dampen road shock and vibration.
