Parking Pawl: Description and Operation
Parking Pawl
The front planetary ring gear has notches on its outer circumference. When the gear selector is placed in "P", the parking actuator rod causes the cam
(located on the parking actuator rod) to move the parking pawl upward to engage the ring gear notches. This holds the transmission output shaft
stationary and prevents vehicle movement. In all other gears, the parking pawl is released from the ring gear, which allows movement of the output
shaft (and the vehicle).
