Lower Side Moulding / Trim: Service and Repair
SIDE PROTECTOR MOULDING / Removal
1. Apply heat to the molding and the surrounding surface with either a heat lamp or heat gun. This will soften the adhesive.
2. Remove the protective molding by starting at a corner, gradually lifting the molding from the metal. Continue until a good handhold is available,
then remove the remainder of the molding.
Installation
1. Remove all traces of adhesive from the body panel and the back of the molding using commercially available, general purpose, automotive
adhesive cleaner.
2. Apply a guideline for the placement of the molding using masking tape, if needed.
3. Peel the backing from one side of double-sided, foambased automotive adhesive tape. The foam tape should be approximately 3 inches (76 mm)
wide.
4. Apply the exposed adhesive to the back of the molding and press firmly into place.
5. Peel the backing from the remaining side of the foam tape.
6. Apply the molding with its exposed adhesive to the body panel, using the masking tape as a guideline. Press firmly into place and, if the
temperature is nearly 90 °F (33 °C), secure the molding in several places with masking tape so its own weight will not drag it down.
7. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations regarding curing time and when the vehicle can be returned to service.
