Water Pump: Service and Repair
INSPECTION
Inspect around the timing belt cover for coolant. If coolant is found in that area, it is probably the coolant pump or gasket leaks. Replace the coolant
pump.
REMOVAL
1. Remove the under cover.
CAUTION: Never open the radiator cap when the engine is hot. Removing the radiator cap from a hot engine could result in a serious burn.
Wrap a thick cloth around the radiator cap when removing it.
2. Remove the radiator cap.
3. Open drain cock and drain coolant into a suitable container.
4. Remove the upper and lower radiator hoses.
5. Remove the coolant reservoir tank hose.
6. Remove the fresh air duct.
Tighten the fresh air duct bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
7. Remove the engine fan and shroud together.
8. Loosen the alternator mounting bolt and adjusting bolt.
9. Remove the generator belt.
10. Remove fan pulley.
11. Remove fan bracket assembly.
12. Remove upper and lower timing belt covers.
Tighten upper and lower timing belt cover bolts to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
13. Turn crankshaft so the No. 1 cylinder is at TDC.
14. Loosen tensioner lock bolt and pry tensioner away.
15. Retighten tensioner bolt.
16. Remove timing belt and put aside.
17. Loosen tensioner bolt and let tensioner rest.
