Evaporator Drain Tube: Technical Service Bulletins
A/C - Evaporator Case Water Leaks to Interior
SOURCE: Kia Technician Times
TITLE: A/C Evaporator Case Water Leakage
APPLIES TO: Sportage
SERVICE TIP:
CONDITION
1. Water dripping down onto the carpet in passenger foot well.
2. Mist blowing out of vent registers when blower is on.
CAUSE
The evaporator box drain hose can become kinked so that the water collected inside the evaporator box cannot drain properly. As the water continues
to fill up in the bottom of the evaporator box, it will eventually start to blow through the ducts and out the vent registers during blower motor
operation. Also, as water fills up in the evaporator box it can begin to leak through the seam between the evaporator box and heater unit, down into the
front passenger foot well.
The cause for the drain hose kinking is the result of interference between the drain hose and front wire harness assembly (see photo 1). The front wire
harness assembly goes from the engine compartment fuse box and routes just under the drain hose along the RH lower firewall area. In most cases, the
drain hose kinking is the result of variations in routing of the front wire harness during factory assembly.
