Positive Crankcase Ventilation Valve: Testing and Inspection

PCV VALVE AND VENTILATION HOSE

Inspection

1. Warm up engine to normal operating temperature and run it at idle.
2. Disconnect the PCV valve by pulling the ventilation hose from the cylinder head cover.
3. Block the PCV valve opening.

4. Verify that vacuum is felt.
5. Remove the PCV valve
6. Blow low pressure air through the larger diameter. inlet. Air should pass through the valve.
7. Blow low pressure air through the smaller inlet of the PCV valve. Air should not pass through the valve.
8. Replace the PCV valve if it fails any of these tests.
