Idle Speed: Testing and Inspection

Idle Speed

1. Apply the parking brake.
2. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
3. Turn OFF all electrical loads.
4. Use one of the three methods of inspecting idle speed:

Connect a tachometer to the Data Link Connector (DLC) IG-terminal. (This terminal is for connecting the positive lead of non-inductive
tachometers only.)

Use inductive pick-up on spark plug wire to measure idle speed.

Connect Kia Data Pro Scan Tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC) and then refer to the KIA Data Pro Scan Tool instruction manual for
retrieval of engine idle speed information.

NOTE:  The idle speed is not adjustable. The idle speed is automatically controlled by the Engine Control Module through the Idle Air
Control (IAC) Valve.

5. Check that idle speed is within the specified range. Idle speed (transmission in NEUTRAL): 820 ± 50 rpm
6. Remove the diagnostic tool used to retrieve the idle speed.
7. Turn engine OFF.
