Power Steering Fluid: Testing and Inspection
System Pressure Test
NOTE: Cap or plug disconnected fluid lines to prevent entry of foreign matter. Contamination of power steering fluid can result in damage to the power
steering pump and steering gear.
1. Connect the power steering analyzer as shown: pressure gage side to the outlet (pressure port) of the power steering pump, and valve side to the
inlet (pressure port) of the steering gear.
Tighten to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).
2. Open valve of power steering analyzer to full-open.
3. Start engine.
NOTE: Do not hold the steering wheel full-left or full-right for longer than 15 seconds. Prolonged operation in this position is harmful to the
power steering pump.
4. With engine at idle speed, turn the steering wheel full-left and full-right several times to warm the power steering fluid.
