Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair

NOTE: On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Remove transmission.
4. Remove clutch cover mounting bolts.
5. Remove clutch cover and clutch disc.
6. Hold flywheel with screwdriver or suitable tool.
7. Remove flywheel lock bolts and the flywheel.
8. Remove six oil seal seat bolts.
9. Remove oil seal seat.

10. Cut oil seal lip with razor or knife.
11. Remove oil seal with screwdriver and shop rag.
12. Apply small amount of engine oil to new oil seal and rear cover.
13. Push oil seal in slightly by hand.
14. Press oil seal into rear cover.
15. Install oil seal seat and tighten bolts.
16. Install flywheel and tighten bolts to specifications.
17. Install clutch disc and clutch cover.
18. Install transmission.
