Sportage (KM) 4WD Input Shaft Seal Damage
During a joint teardown inspection at our remanufacturing facility, we discovered damage to the transaxle inner seal on several transmissions. The
damage was the result of the transfer case hollow shaft not being fully engaged into the transfer drive gear. To prevent this damage from occuring ensure
that the hollow shaft is LOCKED into the c-clip inside the transfer drive gear. If the hollow shaft is locked into place, the sealing surface on the inner
shaft will be visible and you will not be able to pull the hollow shaft out of the transfer drive gear without excessive force. Please follow these steps to
prevent seal damage and fluid leak from occuring.
Shown is seal damage from hollow shaft not being installed correctly and hitting seal surface.
