Brake Master Cylinder: Description and Operation
MASTER CYLINDER
The master cylinder produces the pressure needed to actuate the wheel cylinders. The unit consists of a hydraulic fluid reservoir and a dual piston
assembly. When the brake pedal is depressed, a mechanical linkage pushes on the dual piston forcing fluid out of two side ports. The front port sends
fluid to the front disc brakes while the rear port sends fluid to the rear drum brakes. By using this method, a failure in one of the pistons will only
affect half of the brake system.
