Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair
Removal
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Raise and properly support the vehicle.
3. Remove the transmission.
4. Remove the six clutch cover mounting bolts.
5. Remove the clutch cover and clutch disc.
6. Hold the flywheel with the SST (or equivalent).
7. Remove the flywheel lock bolts.
8. Remove the flywheel.
9. Remove the six rear cover bolts.
10. Remove the rear cover.
11. Remove the oil seal with a seal removal tool.
Inspection
1. Inspect the flywheel, ring gear and clutch assembly.
2. Replace if necessary.
Installation
1. Apply a small amount of clean engine oil to the lip of a new oil seal and the rear cover.
2. Push the oil seal slightly in by hand.
Notice: The oil seal must be installed flush with the edge of the rear cover.
