Confirm whether the vehicle is a 1995 or 1996 model year Sportage.

Review "Replacement Procedures" before attempting A/C Compressor and Cooling Fan (1995 models) or Cooling Fan (1996 models) Replacement.

Verify the parts, tools and equipment are available before starting.
^
Inspect all replacement parts for damage prior to installation.
WARNING
When using a floor jack, do not get under the vehicle. Always use safety stands to support the vehicle weight and wheel chocks to keep the vehicle
from rolling. Failure to do so could result in injury or death.
When using a hoist, make sure the front and rear of the vehicle are properly positioned and the hoist arms are set as wide as possible.
CAUTION
1. Before servicing any electrical components, disconnect the negative battery cable. Unless instructed otherwise, the ignition switch must also be in
the "OFF" or "LOCK" position.
2. This air conditioner system contains refrigerant-134a which requires special handling to avoid personal injury Always follow the special handling
instructions listed below:
a) Always wear eye protection and wrap a clean cloth around fittings, valves and connections when servicing the refrigerant system.
b) Always work in a well ventilated area, and avoid breathing refrigerant fumes.
c) Do not weld or steam clean on or near any air conditioner hoses or components.
d) Do not allow refrigerant to come in direct contact with your skin. If refrigerant-134a comes into contact with any part of the body flush the
exposed area with water and immediately seek medical attention.
3. Prior to disconnecting, removing or replacing any air conditioner hoses or components, all refrigerant must be completely recovered using
approved refrigerant recovery equipment.
4. Do not remove caps from fittings until each component is ready for connection.
5. Do not release refrigerant into the atmosphere. Use your refrigerant recovery/recycling equipment whenever you need to discharge the A/C
system.
6. Do not expose refrigerant or refrigerant containers to fire or flames.
WARNING
Failure to follow procedures, or failure to adhere to Warnings, Cautions and Notices could result in personal injury, death and/or unnecessary vehicle
damage/repairs.
* NOTICE
1. Always tighten fasteners and fittings to the correct torque value. Insufficient or excessive tightening can result in leakage or damage to the air
conditioner system.
2. If the air conditioner system has been opened to the atmosphere it should be properly evacuated before recharging with refrigerant-134a.
3. All parts should be at room temperature before uncapping to prevent condensation of moisture inside the components.
4. 0-rings and seals must be in perfect condition. A burr or dirt on a sealing surface may cause a refrigerant leak.
5. When tightening 0-ring fittings, the opposing fitting should be backed up with a wrench to prevent distortion of the seal and to allow for proper
tightening.
6. Remember to reinstall the service valve caps after charging the air conditioner system.
7. Do not bend flexible hoses to a radius of more than four times the diameter of the hose.
8. Keep all tools and parts clean and dry.
9. Use protective covers to avoid damage to the body of the vehicle.
