Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair
WARNING: Do not touch the three way catalytic converter (TWC) heat shield when the engine is running. The conversion process
produces high heat. Even when the engine is not running, it remains hot a long time. It will remain hot after the tail pipe has cooled.
Touching the heat shield may produce a serious burn.
REMOVAL
1. Remove the three nuts from the bottom flange of the header pipe.
2. Remove two nuts from the forward muffler flange.
3. Remove the TWC converter.
4. Remove two gaskets.
INSTALLATION
1. Clean mating surfaces as required.
2. Install two new gaskets.
3. Position the TWC converter for installation.
4. Tighten two nuts at the forward muffler flange. Tighten these two nuts to 70 ft. lbs. (100 Nm).
5. Tighten three nuts at bottom flange of the header pipe. Tighten these three nuts to 70 ft. lbs. (100 Nm).
