Exhaust Pipe: Service and Repair
Front Exhaust Pipe
CAUTION: A hot exhaust system can produce a serious burn.
REMOVAL
1. Remove one bolt from the bracket at the bottom of the header pipe.
2. Remove two nuts from the heat shield covering the upper end of the header pipe.
3. Remove three nuts that attach the header pipe to the catalytic converter.
4. Remove three nuts that attach the header pipe to the exhaust manifold.
5. Remove the header pipe.
6. Remove two gaskets.
INSTALLATION
1. Clean mating surfaces as required.
2. Install new gaskets.
3. Position header pipe for installation.
4. Install three nuts that attach the header pipe to the exhaust manifold.
Tighten these nuts to 70 ft. lbs. (100 Nm).
5. Install two nuts that attach the header pipe to the catalytic converter.
Tighten these nuts to 70 ft. lbs. (100 Nm).
6. Install one bolt to attach the bottom end of the header pipe to the bracket.
Tighten this bolt to 38 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
7. Position the heat shield at the upper end of the header pipe.
8. Install two nuts to secure heat shield.
Tighten these nuts to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm).
