Evaporator Temperature Sensor / Switch: Testing and Inspection
On Vehicle Inspection
1. Remove the glove box.
2. Run the engine at idle.
3. Turn off the A/C switch and set the blower switch to the highest position to operate the blower fan for a few minutes.
4. After a few minutes, turn off the blower switch and stop the engine.
5. Disconnect the A/C thermostat connectors and verify that there is continuity between the two terminals.
6. Replace the thermostat if there is no continuity.
NOTE: The A/C thermostat contacts will be open if the evaporator temperature is below 32.7 ± 1.3°F (0.4 ± 0.7 °C).
Bench Inspection
1. Remove thermostat.
2. Immerse the tip of sensor in a container of ice water.
3. Verify that there is no continuity between the two terminals.
4. Replace thermostat if there is continuity.
