2. Install torque wrench on end of worm shaft (pitman arm end of shaft).
3. While measuring torque required to turn the worm shaft, turn the adjusting bolt as required to obtain required preload.
Worm shaft breakaway torque: 65 ft. lbs. (88 Nm)
While adjusting preload, check that the torque required to turn the worm shaft is greater in the mid range than at either extreme of shaft rotation.
The mid-range torque should be 31 inch lbs. (3.5 Nm) greater than that measured at either end of the motion.
4. Hold adjusting bolt with screwdriver and tighten locking nut.
Tighten locking nut to 28 ft. lbs. (38 Nm).
5. Check preload torque again to make sure that adjustment did not change.
