Gear Shift Lever Fouling A/C Plenum Housing

DETAIL

When a Defender 90 has an accessory air conditioning kit installed, it is possible that when shifting into 1st, 3rd, or 5th gear, the shift lever fouls the A/C
plenum housing (air vent rail).

ACTION REQUIRED

Upon customer complaint follow the procedure below.

PARTS INFORMATION

FRC8863 - Gear Shift Lever (supersedes old gear lever)

PROCEDURE

The problem is rectified by replacing the existing lever with the new lever, FRC8863.

1.

Loosen the shifter boot from the transmission tunnel. If carefully removed the retaining tie wrap can be reused when refitting the boot.

2.

Remove the 10 mm Nyloc nut and flat washer that holds the upper gear shift lever onto the splined lower gear lever. Remove upper gear lever.

3.

Take the new gear lever FRC8863, and reassemble with the washer and Nyloc nut. Before putting the boot back in place ensure that the gear lever
now clears the A/C plenum. The rotational position of the lever on the lower splined lever is crucial. By rotating the upper lever to the left or the
right, the correct position will be found where the lever will clear the A/C plenum in 1St, 3rd and 5th gears.

4.

Replace the boot.
