Following customer complaints of no start in ambient temperatures of typically below -5 degrees Fahrenheit (-20°C), the service procedure shown below
should be implemented immediately for all vehicles operated in the shaded areas of the map shown. Oil viscosity and battery condition have a significant
affect upon engine cranking speed particularly in cold temperatures. 5W/30 or 5W/40 engine oil and the starting procedure shown below will ensure that
the best cranking speed and lubrication characteristics are achieved in extreme cold weather.
Note:
Since the "break in" characteristics of mineral oils exceed those of synthetic, synthetic oils should not be used before the 7500 mile service.
ACTION REQUIRED
For customers who operate their vehicles in the shaded area of the map follow the procedure below. Advise customers of the starting procedure and
make them aware of the instructions in the Owners Handbook which have recently been updated.
