Freelander (LN) V6-2.5L (2004)
19. Clean camshafts and bearing running surfaces in camshaft carrier and cylinder head.
20. Inspect camshafts and replace camshafts if scored, pitted or excessively worn.
21. Use a lint-free cloth and solvent, clean sealing surfaces on cylinder head and camshaft carrier.
22. Position camshafts in cylinder head and place Plastigauge across each journal.
23. Refit camshaft carrier and tighten bolts in sequence to 10 Nm (7.5 ft. lbs.). DO NOT rotate camshaft.
24. Using the sequence shown, progressively loosen and remove camshaft carrier bolts. Release and remove camshaft carrier from cylinder head.
25. Measure widest part of Plastigauge on each journal. Camshaft bearing clearance= 0.025 to 0.059 mm. If clearance is excessive, fit new camshaft
and repeat check. If still out of tolerance, renew cylinder head.
Refit
1. Remove all traces of Plastigauge from camshaft bearing journals.
2. Thoroughly clean and lubricate hydraulic tappets with clean engine oil. Fit hydraulic tappets to original bores in cylinder head.
3. Ensure that mating faces of camshaft carrier and cylinder head are clean and dry.
4. Lubricate camshafts and bearing journals with clean engine oil.
