Wipers/Washers - Poor Rear Wiper Performance
No.: LA501-022
Issue: 1
Date: August 16, 2006
SECTION: 501-16 - WIPERS AND WASHERS
Poor Rear Wiper Performance - Wiper Arm Pivot Seizing
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
LR3 (LA)
VIN: 5A000360 to 6A389885
CONDITION SUMMARY:
REAR WIPER PERFORMANCE IS POOR OR TRAVEL SLOWED OR STALLED
A customer may report a concern of poor rear wiper performance or that the wiper arm travel is slow or has stalled.
Situation:
Ingress of road dirt and galvanic corrosion of the wiper arm pivot bearing may cause the wiper arm pivot joint to seize. A seized pivot joint may result in
the wiper arm being held off the rear glass and a slowing or stalling of the arm travel.
The introduction of a plastic bearing and increased clearances has resolved this issue.
NOTE:
If the customer concern is regarding slow or stalling rear wiper arm travel, the pivot joint must be checked for a seized condition and rectified
according to this bulletin, where applicable, before considering if the wiper motor may be a cause. The wiper motor is not to be replaced if the pivot
joint is seized and the concern rectified by replacing the rear wiper arm.
Action:
Should a customer express a concern noted, and the pivot seizure condition has been verified, refer to the Repair Procedure detailed in this bulletin to
install a new wiper arm.
