Headlamp Switch: Description and Operation

Lighting Control Switch

DESCRIPTION

Introduction

The lighting control switch is located on the drivers side of the instrument panel. The switch contains controls for the following functions:

Exterior Lamps

The main rotary control operates the exterior lamps. Turning the control to position 1 activates the side lamps. Position 2 activates the headlamps, while
position 3 activates the auto lighting function. Pulling the control out to the first detente will operate the front fog lamps. Pulling the control to the second
detente will operate both the front and rear fog lamps.

NOTE: The fog lamp function will not operate when the rotary control is in position '0' or the auto lighting position.

Headlamp Levelling

A rotary control is used to control the operation of the headlamp levelling system.

Instrument Cluster Dimming

A variable position rotary switch is used to control the level of switch and instrument panel illumination. 

OPERATION

Power Distribution

Feed from the positive battery terminal (C0192) is supplied to fuse 25E, fusible link 11E and the ignition relay (C0632) on an R wire. All are located in
the Battery Junction Box (BJB).

Fuse 25E (C0570) provides a constant battery feed to the lighting control switch (C0041) on an NG wire. Fusible link 11E (C0570) is connected to the 
ignition switch (C0028) by an N wire. When the ignition switch is turned to the ignition position, current flows across the switch (C0028) to fuse 28P,
fuse 61P and the Central Junction Box (CJB) (C0582) on a Y wire.

Fuse 28P (C0583) provides an ignition feed to the coil of the ignition relay (C0570) on an LG wire. The relay coil (C0570) is provided a ground path on
a B wire. The energised relay provides a feed to the lighting control switch (C0041) via fusible link 2E of the BJB (C0570) on an NP wire.

Fuse 61P of the CJB (C0582) provides an ignition feed to the lighting control switch (C0041) on an NP wire. The lighting control switch is provided a
ground path on a B wire.

Position 1

When the lighting control switch is turned to position 1 (side lamps) the battery feed from fuse 25E (C0570) flows across the lighting control switch
(C0041) to the CJB (C0580) on an RW wire. When the CJB receives this feed it initiates the side lighting function.

Position 2

When the lighting control switch is turned to position 2 (headlamps) a feed from fuse 61P (C0582) flows across the lighting control switch (C0041) to
the CJB (C0580) on a Y wire. When the CJB receives this feed it initiates the headlamp function.

Position 3

When the lighting control switch is turned to position 3 (auto lighting) a feed from fuse 61P (C0582) flows across the lighting control switch (C0041) to
the CJB (C0580) on an R wire. When the CJB receives this feed it initiates the auto lighting function.

Front Fog Lamps

When the lighting control switch is pulled to the front fog lamp position, a feed from fusible link 2E (C0570) flows across the lighting control switch
(C0041) to fuse 38P of the CJB (C0582) on a UR wire.
