Gear Selection Difficult or Selection Lever Stiff to Operate

CONDITION SUMMARY:

GEAR SELECTION MAY BE DIFFICULT OR SELECTION LEVER MAY BE STIFF TO OPERATE

Situation:
A customer may report a concern that the automatic transmission selector lever has become very stiff to operate, or that it has become difficult to select
forward or reverse gears. Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0850 - "Park/Neutral switch" may be stored in the transmission control module.

Excessive friction and binding of the selector cable pivot bushing within the gear selector lever may be the cause. Over-tightening of the gear selector
cable adjuster clamp can result in a dimensional tolerance issue that may lead to excessive friction and binding of the pivot bushing.

Action:
Should a customer express this concern, refer to the Repair Procedure detailed in this bulletin to replace the selector lever.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

REPLACE GEAR SELECTOR LEVER

CAUTION: 

The selector cable adjuster clamp nut must be tightened between 10 to 12Nm (7.5 to 8.5 lbf-ft). The specified torque must not be exceeded.
