1987 - 1988 MODELS
To: ALL RANGE ROVER DEALERS
Land Rover U.K. Ltd, has determined that all 1987 and 1988 model vehicles, imported by Range Rover of North America, Inc., are improperly labeled
with respect to rear tire pressure required for the maximum Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR). This means that the vehicles do not comply with a
Federal Safety Standard regarding Tire Selection.
In order to resolve this, all owners of these vehicles will receive a notification letter, along with a supplementary adhesive label for the driver's door. A
sample of the Owner Notification Letter is attached and a supply of labels is enclosed for your use in modifying any of these vehicles in your possession,
which should be done immediately.
If-any owner requests that you install the label, please do this as a courtesy. A listing of affected vehicles originally allocated to your Dealership is also
enclosed.

Owner Letter
January, 1989
Dear Range Rover Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Land Rover, U.K., Ltd, has determined that the 1987 and 1988 Model Range Rover vehicles imported by Range Rover of North America, Inc., fail to
comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. FMVSS 120, Tire Selection. Our records show that you are the owner of an affected vehicle.
The label on the rear edge of the driver's door lists an incorrect tire pressure specification for the Rear - Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR).
The text should read:
GAWR REAR
3572 LBS WITH 205R16 TIRES
7JX16 RIMS @ 41 PSI COLD
Recommended normal tire pressures of Front - 28 PSI and Rear - 38 PSI remain unchanged. However, for rear axle loads above 3,400 lbs and up to the
maximum of 3,572 lbs, the specification is 41 PSI. A lower tire pressure at these higher axle loads could lead to tire failure, and consequently a loss of
control or even a crash.
