1.

Place the transmission selector in park.

2.

Fit the split grommet around the forward end of the selector cable housing just behind the dust seal.

3.

Carefully spread the clip and fit it around the grommet with the tang facing upward and the flat portion of the clip next to the transmission case.
Make sure the clip does not pinch the raised ends of the grommet.

4.

Move the grommet/clip as required to align with the lower tapped hole in the transmission case.

5.

Install the 8 = bolt and washer and torque to 17-20 nM (12-15 ft. lbs.). Bend the clip as needed to centralize the cable in the grommet and
eliminate any side pressure on the cable housing.

6.

Operate the shift lever through all ranges several times to check for proper selector cable operation and indexing.

Our field reporting system indicates that some 1987 model Range Rovers have exhibited binding or stiffness in the cable connecting the gear shift lever
to the transmission. This may result in increased effort when shifting into reverse or park. We have elected to conduct a Service Action to install a small
clip on the side of the transmission housing that will result in proper operation of the shift lever and cable, even if binding were to occur. This
modification has now been incorporated into the assembly process.

You may have already been contacted by your Range Rover dealer. If not, please call your dealer to arrange for inspection of your vehicle. The dealer
will install the clip in accordance with instructions we have provided him.

This inspection and modification will be made at no charge. Your dealer will make every attempt to make this service as convenient as possible.
