'Engine Fail-safe Prog' Message Displayed - DTC P061A-29

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:

Range Rover (LM) (4.2L S/C only)

VIN: 6A198058 to 6A231166

CONDITION SUMMARY:

Situation: 

A customer may report a concern of reduced engine performance and the message 'Engine Fail-safe Prog' displayed. This message may have cleared
following the next ignition cycle. Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P061A-29 'Internal Control Module Torque Performance' will be stored within the
Engine Control Module (ECM).

A software calibration sensitivity issue may be the cause. If the software incorrectly detects a difference between the values generated by the two
methods used for calculating engine torque, the vehicle engine will enter a 'limp home' mode.

Action: 

Should a customer express a concern regarding this situation, refer to the Repair Procedure detailed in this bulletin to update the Engine Control Module
software.

TOOLS:

WDS CD13-Patch File 5 or later installed or
IDS DVD101 or later with the latest Patch File installed (First NAS IDS availability July 2006)

If WDS CD13 has Patch File 5 (or later) installed or IDS DVD101 (or later) is being used, go to step 6.

minutes to download depending on connection speed. For information on how to confirm that the patch file has been correctly installed onto
WDS/IDS, refer to the applicable Patch Process Help File located in GTR. Global Technical Reference (GTR) lookup sequence is as follows:
