CONDITION SUMMARY:
CONTROL VALVE ACTUATOR AVAILABLE AS REPAIR PART
A customer may report a concern of abnormally high steering efforts required during parking maneuvers.
Cause:
A diagnostic check may determine that the power steering control valve actuator in the steering gear is not responding to the speed related signal from
the control unit and is the reason for the extra effort required.
Action:
A service repair kit for replacement of the actuator is now available to affect a repair without steering rack replacement. Should a customer express
concern regarding the above, refer to the Repair Procedure in this bulletin.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
STEERING EFFORT DIAGNOSTICS AND CONTROL VALVE ACTUATOR REPLACEMENT
NOTE:
The expected values are 850 mA and 44% at engine idle

Diagnose the power steering control valve actuator using T4/WDS to view the input signals to the actuator as follows:

Select "Power Steering".

Select "Real Time Display".
^
Select "Overview".
^
Verify that the values of 850 mA and 44% at idle are observed.
