2003 Range Rover HVAC Control Noise
Situation
Prior to delivery of any 2003 Range Rover vehicle, activate the HVAC control button as described below to determine if a scraping or rubbing type noise
may be heard when the vehicle is turned on or off or when one of the HVAC control buttons is operated.
An actuating motor contacting the RH center console trim in the passenger foot well causes this noise. If the noise is present, remove the panel and install
a foam spacer block as described below.
Inspect for noise
NOTE:
Do not start engine in the following procedure so that the noise can be heard.
1.
Park vehicle in a quiet area. Close all doors.
2.
Insert ignition key and turn to position II.
3.
Set fan speed to lowest setting.
4.
While listening closely in the passenger foot well, operate the right side AC button (foot well distribution) on the HVAC panel. (Figure 1)
5.
If the noise is not present, no further action is required.
Install foam spacer block
6.
If the noise is present, obtain 1 inch insulating foam CUBE (foam blocks installed as transit protection by the factory on the side of the vehicle
work well)
