Steering Column Tilt Mechanism Adjustment Noise
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
Range Rover (LM)
VIN: All
CONDITION SUMMARY:
STEERING COLUMN TILT MECHANISM ADJUSTMENT NOISE DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR
NOTE: Certain vehicles may be subject to Land Rover Service Action B028 "Steering Column Tilt Mechanism Upgrade". DDW and the latest
issue of B028 should be reviewed for applicability prior to completing the Repair Procedure detailed in this bulletin.
NOTE: A steering column assembly should NOT be replaced for tilt mechanism 'noise' related issues.
Situation: A customer may report a concern that the steering column tilt adjustment mechanism is noisy during operation. A 'noise' may be described as
either a squeak/squeal noise or a motor whirring/hum noise. Both noises are commonly caused by a lack of lubrication on the tilt spindle threads. This
bulletin has been issued to provide information for correct diagnosis.
Two potential causes for a tilt mechanism noise are as follows:
*
A lack of lubricant on the tilt spindle thread.
*
An internal fault within the tilt motor.
Action: Should a customer express this concern, and the vehicle is not subject to Service Action B028, refer to the Repair Procedure detailed in this
bulletin to resolve the noise concern.
