Maintenance Required Lamp/Indicator: Description and Operation
Description
Emission Maintenance Reminder - USA
The emission maintenance reminder is designed to activate at 52,500 and 105,000 miles respectively and will illuminate a "Service Engine" or
"Check Engine" warning light in instrument panel.
The "Check Engine" light terminology was used on 1988-1989 vehicles. In 1990 this light relabeled "Service Engine" and is known as the Service
Reminder Indicator (SRI) in the industry. This Service Reminder Indicator is retained on current models.
The emission maintenance reminder must be reset after required maintenance has been carried out and a new tamper proof label installed by the
servicing technician.
