Wiper Blade - Chatter/Poor Cleaning/Streaking
Bulletin: P93/76-004
Section: Product
Date: 11/24/93
Model: Range Rover/Defender
Applicable to: USA/CND
Subject:
WIPER BLADE CHATTER, POOR CLEANING, STREAKING, ETC.
Most cases of windshield wiper chatter, streaking, etc. are a result of contaminants on the windshield and/or blades, rather than faulty blades. The use of
Rain-X can also promote this condition. Wiper blades should not be replaced under warranty for the above conditions.
WORK PROCEDURE
Where there are persistent customer complaints of this condition, follow the action listed below before replacing the wiper blades:
1.
Establish that there has not been any use of Rain-X or any equivalent product.
2.
Examine the blades carefully for any splits or tears in the rubber wiping surface. If the integrity of the blades is acceptable, thoroughly clean their
wiping surface using windshield washer solvent.
3.
Thoroughly clean the windshield using "Soft Scrub" or an equivalent to erase stubborn contaminants adhering to the glass. Rinse the glass with
clear water to remove any residue from the cleansing agent.
4.
Establish that a good quality commercial windshield washer solvent is being used and that the reservoir is free of any contaminants.
Please remember that wiper blades deteriorate naturally due to normal atmospheric effects and industrial fall out.
The above procedures cannot be claimed through warranty and must be considered as vehicle maintenance.
