Radiator Top Hose - Coolant Leak
MODEL:
Range Rover 4.0 / 4.6
AFFECTED VEHICLES:
LP
300190 to 330000

LD
DETAIL
Coolant leaks may originate from the radiator top hose on Range Rover 4.0/4.6. Investigations have found that a small number of hoses may have been
contaminated during the manufacturing process which affects the hose integrity and can cause a leak. From VIN 330000 the hose manufacturing process
has been revised and this eliminates the problem.
NOTE
To help ensure that the top hose 34 is of the revised manufacturing process, the date code molded into the hose should be after week 34 of 1995. The
date code appears on the hose as follows: "22X 95 34 BX", which is read 1995 week 34. Before fitting new top hose to vehicle check that the proper
date code is past the week 34 of 1995.
ACTION REQUIRED
At the next service visit, follow the procedure below on vehicles contained within the above VIN range.
PARTS INFORMATION
ESR2866 - Radiator top hose
NTC5171 - Radiator plug O-ring
PROCEDURE
Refer to the Workshop Manual section 26.
1.
Remove the drain plug from the base of the radiator and partially drain the coolant into a suitable CLEAN container. Note: Retain the coolant for
refill. See Workshop Manual procedure 26.10.01, ensure mixture is at 50/50%.
2.
Remove the radiator top hose and replace with hose ESR2866. Ensure the hose is fitted correctly and all hose clamps are tightened to 2.5 ft.lbs
(3.5 Nm).
3.
Prior to coolant refill, remove expansion tank cap, remove radiator bleed pipe from radiator, blow through the pipe with an air line to clear any air
locks (see illustration - hose identified by arrow) then reconnect to radiator.
