Lack of familiarity with certain functions of the BeCM on Range Rover 4.0/4.6 vehicles can lead to the unnecessary replacement of control modules.
Please note the following information and ensure that all technicians are aware of these functions and upgrades. This knowledge will help to avoid
customer confusion and unnecessary repair efforts.

NOTE:

Reverse mirror dip functions are clearly explained in the Range Rover Owner's Manual, Section 2. 

Customer complaints about the reverse mirror dip function have caused some BeCM replacements where no fault exists. In these cases when reverse was
selected, the mirror tilted up rather than dipping down as it should. In the units examined so far an incorrect setting (from the factory or the customer) has
been the only problem. If the BeCM is replaced to correct the perceived reverse mirror dip problem, the symptoms will disappear because the new
BeCM has factory set defaults at a correct dip position. The problem is corrected but in fact there was NO FAULT, only incorrect information stored in
the BeCM. If you experience this type of complaint check the memory settings for the reverse mirror dip position.

ACTION REQUIRED

Upon customer complaint for the symptoms outlined, perform the specified checks before executing repairs.

PROCEDURE

Reverse Mirror Dip Adjustment/Memory:

1.

Keep the vehicle in reverse and reset the door mirror position to the desired dip position.

2.

STORE THE DIP POSITION IN MEMORY. (This is done by holding down the seat switchpack memory store button and selecting either
Memory 1 or Memory 2).
