DETAIL

To reduce the incidence of brake squeal on Range Rover 4.0/4.6 models, a revised brake pad has been introduced on the front axle. The new pads were
fitted on line from VIN 324567, and a campaign fitment to all 96MY cars (TA318243 - TA324567) was authorized by 1995 technical bulletin H421.
Due to limited parts availability, use of the new pads on 95MY vehicles was not covered at that time.

Full availability of the new pads is now established, and use of the new pad can now be extended to the 95MY Range Rover 4.0 upon customer
complaint of brake squeal. The new pads (STC3195) should also be used for all service replacements, old pads (STC1880) should no longer be used.

NOTE: 

There is no change to the specification of the rear axle brake pads.

ACTION REQUIRED

Upon customer complaint of brake squeal, follow procedure below and replace brake pads.

PROCEDURE

1.

Remove front wheels.

2.

Remove front brake pads.

3.

Ensure caliper is clean prior to installing new pads.

4.

Install new brake pads.

5.

Mark the head of the upper and lower guide pin bolts on both front calipers with white paint to identify that the update has been completed (pads
are visually the same).

6.

Install the road wheels and torque the wheel nuts to 80 ft.lbs (108 Nm).
