P1317 code - check circuit between the GEMS ECM and the ABS ECU.

P1703 code - check between the GEMS ECM and the transfer box ECU.

3.

If the faults occur together obtain PROM set PRM9622 and update the ECM PROMs as described below.

REMOVAL

1.

Make sure the ignition key is turned off.

2.

Remove battery cover, ECM cover and harness clamp.

3.

Disconnect harnesses and remove ECM.

NOTE: 

Verify that white anti-back out strips are in place in connectors. If missing, install new ones.

4.

Place ECM on grounded anti-static mat (LRNASTATK), red connector side up. Be sure to wear grounding wrist band (figure 1).

5.

Remove 5 Torx(R) (T20) from cover and remove.

6.

Remove 8 Torx(R) screws holding circuit board and fold over onto mat exposing chips.

NOTE: 

Circuit board is easily damaged. DO NOT use screwdrivers or the like to pry covers off.

7.

Using suitable pliers carefully remove the blue and green chip covers (figure 2).

8.

Remove the exposed Proms with Prom puller.
