Transmission Position Switch/Sensor: Description and Operation
TRANSMISSION POSITION SWITCH
Interface to the Automatic Transmission Control Module
Gear position Switch pins 14, 33, 50. The gear position switch is mounted on the side of the gearbox and contains five internal switches, although
only 3 are connected to the Transmission Control Module via pins 50, 14, and 33. By analyzing the status of these 3 switches, the Transmission
Control Module calculates which gear the vehicle is in.
If a fault occurs with the switch, then the Transmission Control Module may try to put the gearbox into a different gear than the driver's request.
Interface to the Engine Control Module
The ECM uses the transmission gear selection information to determine correct positioning of the Idle Air Control Valve. A Diagnostic Trouble
Code is set when sensor voltage is 5 Volts during cranking or 0 Volts with RPM above 2663 and Mass Air Flow Sensor voltage above 3 Volts.
