Position the measuring tip on the outer diameter of the driveshaft flange.

Move the driveshaft up/down and left/right relative to the drum while keeping the flange in contact with the drum.

Do not rock the flange. The DTI reading should not exceed 0.13 mm. (0.005 in.).

If the measurement in step 5 exceeds the given specification, the brake drum must be replaced (NTC9859). Repeat steps 3 through 5 when the new
drum has been installed to validate that the problem has been resolved.

Remove the DTI.

Torque the driveshaft mounting bolts to 54 Nm. (40 lbf. ft.).

9.

Lower the vehicle.

10.

Road test the vehicle to validate that the customer complaint is resolved.
