Vehicle Safety Recall - D424, NHTSA # 96V-050
A defect which relates to motor vehicle safety may exist in some 1995 model year Range Rover 4.0 SE vehicles imported by Land Rover North America,
Inc.
DESCRIPTION OF DEFECT
Land Rover has identified a potential defect in the rear axle trailing arms fitted to a number of Range Rover 4.0 SE vehicles caused by fracturing of the
aluminum eye which attaches the arm to the chassis frame. Should one of these arms fail, the driver may notice an audible "knocking" noise prior to
separation of the arm from the chassis. If the noise is ignored, there is a risk that the arm will separate resulting in vehicle instability and possible loss of
control.
VEHICLES INVOLVED/CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
U.S. and Canadian Range Rover 4.0 SE vehicles within the VIN range SA300190 - SA309757 are involved in this recall action. In addition, we have
supplied a script to be used by your Grenadiers to contact customers and arrange to have the recall work performed.
Any unsold vehicles in dealer stock must be modified prior to sale. All vehicles being delivered to your dealership within the VIN range must be checked
for the presence of the campaign label affixed to the engine cooling fan shroud. If the label is present, no further action is required.
Customer notification will be mailed by Land Rover on March 22, 1996. In the meantime, if a vehicle within the VIN range is scheduled for a service
appointment, please complete the work outlined in Technical Information Bulletin D424.
WORK PROCEDURES
All vehicles within the specified VIN range must have both rear trailing arms replaced. Detailed repair procedures are contained in the enclosed
Technical Information Bulletin D424.
PICK UP AND DELIVERY
In order to maximize customer convenience, we request that you make every effort to accommodate your customer's needs. In order to compensate you

customer's needs exceeds $50, please fax a Request for Authorization using the standard form to 1-301-731-9814.
